Obama grasps for a handle on scandal . . .

From the Center for the Center:

The Obama strategy for avoiding the political and legal consequences of the three primary scandals facing him is becoming clear. The Center sees the Obama strategy as follows:

1. AP/Fox News scandal: Obama’s “preferred” scandal. Obama is betting that the public will ultimately hold little sympathy for the mainstream media in the context of Obama protecting “national security” interests. Holder will soon take one for the team and resign.

2. Benghazi: This is Obama’s second favorite scandal because it is the most easy to politicize by blaming Republicans for “prolonging” a tragedy when “there is no there, there,” according to Obama. Besides, ultimately, Hillary is responsible and will eventually find herself under the bus.

3. IRS suppression of the Tea Party during the Presidential election: Obama’s most difficult challenge. The emerging strategy is to vigorously shove as many IRS employees, and soon White House staffers, under the bus as is necessary to insulate Obama. The campaign to portray the IRS as somehow confused by the Supreme Court’s Citizen’s United v FCC opinion, and to further vilify the Tea Party, is beginning in earnest.

Obama goes Bulworth: Spying and lying as our Ambassador lay dying . . .

From the Center for the Center:

In the movie “Bulworth,” the title character is a US Senator who, lacking future prospects, elects to “speak truth to power” through rap rhymes. President Obama has recently leaked (without irony) his own desire to “go Bulworth.” It’s too late. Obama’s rap has already gone Bulworth: Spying and lying as our Ambassador lay dying.

Bulworth is a 1998 liberal political fantasy (and box office bomb) written and directed by Hollywood progressive has-been Warren Beatty. Beatty also starred as the title character, a liberal-inside, moderate-outside U.S. Senator who decides to commit suicide so his daughter can illegally collect on a $10 million life insurance policy.

Bulworth gains new popularity through heavy drinking, drug use and the employment of rap lyrics and style in his increasingly left-wing public statements (remember it’s a liberal fantasy). Bulworth is eventually shot by an evil insurance company worker.

Our own President O-Bulworth apparently longs for the freedom to openly espouse his not-so-hidden socialist inclinations at long last. Perhaps his hip-hop styling could include his “spyin’” (on General Petraeus’ affair, the Associated Press and Fox News) and his “lyin’” (the Benghazi video protest, talking points and White House knowledge of the IRS persecution of the Tea Party) while our Ambassador to Libya lay “dyin.”

Rap that.

That was quick; AP back to “reportitorializing” Congressional investigations as partisan attacks . . .

“WASHINGTON (AP) – President Barack Obama, seeking to regain his footing amid controversies hammering the White House, named a temporary chief for the scandal-marred Internal Revenue Service Thursday and pressed Congress to approve new security money to prevent another Benghazi-style terrorist attack.

The efforts did little to satisfy Republicans, who see the controversies as an opportunity to derail Obama’s second-term agenda. House Speaker John Boehner suggested the White House had violated the public’s trust, and he promised to “stop at nothing” to hold the administration accountable.”

Michael Goodwin sums it up . . .

“As a metaphor for big government, it is hard to top the Justice Department’s seizing of journalists’ phone records from The Associated Press.

Unless, of course, you think the best example is the Internal Revenue Service turning the screws on groups it viewed as conservative and, therefore, unworthy of fair treatment.

Or maybe the winner is the sneaky spreading of ObamaCare’s tentacles, with insurance companies now predicting the law will drive up the cost of individual premiums by as much as 400 percent.

There are no losers in this race to the bottom — except the American people. It is tempting to ask whether they’ve had enough Hope & Change, but the question is premature. With 44 months to go in the reign of the Great Mistake, the gods are not done punishing us.”

A perversion of justice; ACLU? Dershowitz? Bueller? Anyone?

From Rich Lowery of National Review:

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula deserves a place in American history. He is the first person in this country jailed for violating Islamic anti-blasphemy laws. You won’t find that anywhere in the charges against him, of course. As a practical matter, though, everyone knows that Nakoula wouldn’t be in jail today if he hadn’t produced a video crudely lampooning the prophet Muhammad.
In the weeks after the attack on U.S. facilities in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three others, the Obama administration claimed the terrorist assault had been the outgrowth of a demonstration against the Nakoula video. The administration ran public service announcements in Pakistan featuring President Barack Obama saying the U.S. had nothing to do with it. In a speech at the United Nations around this time, the president declared — no doubt with Nakoula in mind — “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”
After Benghazi, the administration was evidently filled with a fierce resolve — to bring Nakoula Basseley Nakoula to justice. Charles Woods, the father of a Navy SEAL killed in Benghazi, said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told him when his son’s body returned to Andrews Air Force Base: “We will make sure that the person who made that film is arrested and prosecuted.”
Lo and behold, Nakoula was brought in for questioning by five Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies at midnight, eventually arrested and held without bond, and finally thrown into jail for a year. He sits in La Tuna Federal Correctional Institution in Texas right now, even as the deceptive spin that blamed his video for the Benghazi attack looks more egregious by the day . . .

Strange. President Obama heard about Jason Collins being gay but not about Benghazi Gag Order!

President Barack Obama waived off a question Tuesday about whether his deputies are gagging government employees who are now willing to testify about administration shortcomings before and after the jihadi attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya.

“I’m not familiar with this notion that anybody has been blocked from testifying, so what I will do is find out what exactly you’ve referred to,” he told Fox News’ Ed Henry.

The question followed statements by Victoria Toensing, a D.C. lawyer, that administration officials are trying to gag several American witnesses to the attack.

“What difference does it make?”

Ever predictable Chris Matthews summons his inner Hillary in whining to FBI profiler regarding Boston bombers, “What difference does it make why they did it.” Of course Matthews was keenly interested in motive when he suspected a right wing terror plot. This echoes Hillary’s screeching “what difference . . . does it make” why terrorists killed our Ambassador in Benghazi, after Hillary’s lie about the anti-Muslim video was exposed.
